Satish Gupta is a poet, sculptor
and painter who gives vivid
expression to his rich
imagination. As a contemporary
artist with firm roots in
India's rich and ancient
culture, he has also found
creative and personal
inspiration in the artistic
genius of Zen Buddhism.
I am happy to know that in
conjunction with the opening of
an exhibition of a selection of
his paintings on Buddhist
themes, he is releasing a book
of poems entitled, / am the
Dewdrop, I am the Ocean. The
very words of the title remind
me that just as the dewdrop,
being water, shares many
qualities with the ocean, so do
each of us as individual human
beings share with the ocean-like
array of other human beings, not
only the desire for freedom,
peace and happiness, but also
the potential and right to
secure them. Moreover, this
common right and aspiration is
the reason why I believe it is
good if we can all help each
other however and whenever we
can.
